Giving Back To The Community
Mitchell Kauffman’s commitment to the Santa Barbara community has taken many forms.
Inspiring young people to public service
Mitchell counsels students at the Walter H. Capps Center for the Study of Ethics, Religion and Public Life at the University of California at Santa Barbara. He has spoken with students on the topic “Ethical Challenges We Face in Financial Services: How We Strive to Do the Right Thing for Our Clients.” He also provides financial support for two intern scholarships each year, and donates to the financial aid program at UCSB.
Helping bring higher education to all
Mitchell is currently volunteering with the Santa Barbara Community Foundation, which in turn supports the Santa Barbara City College. He works to accelerate planned giving efforts for the college, and he serves on the college’s President’s Council, which provides the annual resources that enable the Foundation to support academic and vocational programs, student services, scholarships and a wide variety of other college priorities.
Providing financial expertise for local nonprofits
As volunteer Investment Advisor to the Board of Directors of the Hearts Therapeutic Equestrian Center in Santa Barbara, Mitchell is helping the organization establish a Planned Giving Program. The center provides therapeutic horseback riding lessons for children and adults with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. It also offers a horsemanship program for U.S. veterans who are recovering from service-related physical and neurological injuries, as well as post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSS).
Fighting for equality
Mitchell serves on the Board of Directors of the Anti-Defamation League of Santa Barbara. The organization is a “watch dog” for equal opportunity, active in local schools, with a specific focus on ensuring that Latino community members—and others—don’t experience discrimination.
Helping non-profits become better financial stewards
Mitchell is a partner with Social Venture Partners Santa Barbara (SVPSB), a charitable organization that helps local nonprofits develop technical expertise and financial sustainability. SVPSB pools resources and makes strategic investments that leverage time, expertise, and money to build long-term viability for the community’s nonprofits. Mitchell volunteers his professional expertise to the nonprofit partners with whom SVPSB works.
